Traditional Chinese medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the longest existing form of medicine, with over 3000 years of history. It is a complete system of medicine with its own unique diagnosis and therapies. TCM includes acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, tui na, gua sha, herbal remedies and diet/lifestyle counseling based on TCM principles.
In Chinese medicine the body is viewed as an energetic system in dynamic balance. Qi, (pronounced Chee) our vital energy or life force, flows in a regular pattern through a system of channels to all parts of the body.
When the flow of qi is smooth, there is harmony, balance, and good health. When there are qi blockages, too much or too little qi, there is an imbalance which can lead to disharmony and disease.
Qi is the primary factor in impaired health but other components such as, blood, body fluids, essence, spirit, and organ systems may be in disharmony and influence health as well.
When the body is in a state of balance, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, it has the ability to heal itself. The beauty of Chinese medicine is that it can correct imbalances prior to the appearance of symptoms, therefore preventing disease.
